What we do is help. We help home owners that are unable to complete task outside on their own homes or property that the city has notified them of a code violation. Violations can be anything from overgrown grass to fences needing repair, broken garage doors to siding needing replaced and painted. What we do is Rebuild, Renew, and Restore.
We rebuild homes. Many of the homes in our city were built in the 1980s. It may be hard to believe, but that was nearly 40 years ago. And if you haven’t been able to keep up with your home, that is a 40 year old paint job, or fence, or any number of organic products that even with maintenance wear out. So we rebuild homes by removing old, rotted wood, replacing it with new wood, and then a paint job. We rebuild fences, eaves, and the list goes on and on. One of the things we could always use is a skilled craftsman. If you have ever replaced any siding, you have far more experience than most of our volunteers. We could use your help.
We Renew Homes to a former glory. One particular home, we call it the Jumanji House was in total disrepair. The yard had been neglected for decades. Everything was overgrown and out of control. And to make it worse, a huge female mulberry tree in the back split into three pieces. One third fell into the alley causing a violation with the city, a third into the neighbors yard, destroying the fence, and one third onto the house causing damage to the roof and structure.
After four separate work days on the home it was nearly unrecognizable. Not only was the yard cleaned up, the tree cut out and hauled away, but having access to the house and fence, they were rebuilt also. And now that we could get to the house, we chose to give it a brand new coat of paint. A miraculous transformation unfolded right before our eyes. The Jumanji House now stood out not as an eye sore, but as a Rewed home, one you would be proud to live in.
We Restore Homes. When Mission Cedar Hill leaves any given address, the home is no longer in code violation. The home has been restored to be code compliant. But even more important than Rebuilding, Renewing, and Restoring houses, we are having a part in doing the same for people’s lives.
No longer do they need to live under the pressure of having an outstanding warning or violation. That has been corrected. No longer do they have to pull into their driveway, or walk out their door holding their head down because they might feel like “that neighbor, that house”. The best thing we do is to help Rebuild, Renew, and restore is people’s pride in their home, security in the house, and peace in their heart.
