Why we do what we do is the whole foundation of Mission Cedar Hill. The foundation of our Why is LOVE. Jesus, talking about His Follower’s place here on Earth, in Matthew 5:16 said, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” So we do what we do so others will see and glorify our Father in heaven.
There are so many passages in the Holy Bible about how we are to “love our neighbor” (Mark 12:31), to be kind and affectionate to one another with brotherly kindness (Romans 12:10). The Bible teaches us to be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit (1 Peter 3:8). We are taught that each of us should be concerned not only about our own interest, but about the interest of others as well (Philippians 2:4).
Why we do it can be seen in the lesson of the “Good Samaritan” (Luke 10:25-37). In this story a man falls victim to situations and circumstances beyond his control. While others found reason not to stop and render aid, one man did. He took time out of his schedule, and resources from his own belongings to help. At the end of the story, having clarified who did the right thing, Jesus said, “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37).
Many of our homeowners, our neighbors, have found themselves in situations and circumstances beyond their ability. While many may see their need few will stop and do anything about it. Mission Cedar Hill believes LOVE has hands and feet. We take the word GO that Jesus used in the 37th verse and have used it as a teaching point. We see the word G.O. to be a call to action.
G.O. for us is an acrostic meaning, “Given Opportunity”. Given Opportunity lend a healing hand, mend a fence, paint a home, clean a yard. As reflected in the Biblical story, MCH takes the personal time and resources of loving caring people and matches them with people in need of a helping hand. No reservations, no conditions, just Building Unity through Collaboration, touching hearts, and healing lives.
